ALPA Security
ALPA works tirelessly to ensure the safest possible operating environment for our passengers, air cargo, and fellow crewmembers. From identifying potential security threats to developing solutions--such as CrewPASS--for the line pilot, ALPA is the authority on aviation security. Some current initiatives include:
- Removing prescreened pilots from the traditional passenger screening process through the CrewPASS program, which will increase screening efficiencies and security in a cost-effective manner. Read the White Paper on this issue Watch the Video -- Pilot Action Draws TSA Chief
- The installation of secondary barriers on all passenger and all-cargo airliners. Regulators must work to create standards for lightweight, inexpensive mesh barriers to be located between passenger seating and the cockpit door. Read the White Paper on this issue
- Refining certain aspects of the Federal Flight Deck Officer (FFDO) program, particularly the Standard Operating Procedures.Read the White Paper on this issue
Working through ALPA's Engineering and Air Safety Structure, ALPA pilot representatives of the National Security Committee:
- Identify and promote effective countermeasures to criminal acts against airliners, airports, and other airspace systems,
- Advocate development of new technologies and training to advance aviation security, and
- Provide training programs to further members' awareness of security issues.
ALPA has long supported the concept of "One Level of Safety and Security" in regulations, policies, and procedures related to all aspects of airline operations, including carrying cargo on both passenger and all-cargo airliners.
